4 Day Seminar on Success Secrets - Just Too Much Hype and Product Promotion for me

I attended the first day of a 4 day seminar on Success Secrets on Friday. I was emailed a free ticket. I think I was part of the rent-a-crowd to help fill the empty seats. But I do sympathize with Seminar organizers in Australia as I know it is very hard to get high attendance at Seminars Down Under.

Although my ticket was FREE I do want to make some comments about the seminar. Read the rest of this entry »

Blogging For Baby Boomers - A Blogging Baby Boomer Update

I have written two posts on blogging since starting this Blog on 1st April 2008. Both were very popular. I also know that many Baby Boomers are interested in Blogging for themselves. It might be just for interest or in the hope of making a residual income. But there is a high level of interest there.

So how am I doing after almost 4 mouths and how do I feel about it? Read the rest of this entry »

Is Blogging Worth the Effort for Baby Boomers?

The most viewed post on this blog is the one I did on Should Baby Boomers Start an Internet Business in Retirement. I thought it was a good idea and said so. I didn’t expect it to be my highest rated post on this blog though.

So I thought I might write a Post on my experience so far with this blog and what I am hoping to achieve with it. It might help other Baby Boomers decide if they want to start their own blog.

I have spent some considerable time on the Internet over the last two years. I have purchased products for Pay Per Click Adwords Income generation, Affiliate Marketing, Leads generations and Adsense Web sites and Blogs. I have asked for refunds for about 50% of the things I purchased and apart from my first and only major disaster with Stores on Line which cost me about $14,000 I have always got a refund.

Despite my Stores On Line experience it whetted my appetite for the Internet as a place to develop a business. But I always wanted to do something I believed in passionately. So whilst they will tell you to do your keyword research and chose a niche which has reasonable traffic I chose for my first serious site Baby Boomers in Retirement. I’ll admit it is hard going but I believe in the message am trying to get across to other Baby Boomers about the need to protect their nest egg in retirement. (blatant plug here - So spread the word and tell your friends if you find my Blog of value). I am also enjoying writing my posts and researching stuff I would do for my own retirement investing anyway. Read the rest of this entry »

Should Baby Boomers Start an Internet Business in Retirement?

Is it a good idea for a Baby Boomer to start an Internet Business in Retirement?

This is a question on the minds of many Baby Boomers who see it as a way to supplement their income in retirement. Rita from The Survive and Thrive Boomers Guide asked me if I could write a post about boomer’s setting up a small business without risking their nest egg. Be sure to visit her excellent site for all sorts of information for Baby Boomers. This post partly answers that question.

I have run a small computer consultancy business from an office with staff and from an office at home. I much prefer the freedom of working from home and the fact I have no staff to worry about. I was always chained to the business when I had an office.

Fast forward to now when I am in semi-retirement. Much of the computer consultancy work is sub-contracted out now. So I was wondering what I should do with my time. I decided I would see what I could do on the Internet. Luckily my home office was set up years ago and is now serving me well as I try to build my own Internet presence.

But back to my question. If Baby Boomers are looking for a second income to supplement their pension and social security payments then the Internet may provide a way to do that. It can be a low cost, low risk opportunity to create a second income if done right. However it is something that will require time and commitment to make it work. Take my own experience.
